Ephemera Set

Designed classic GNT cards based on historic graphic design styles.

Overview

Tanqueray London Dry Gin has a rich history that dates back to 1830. The hallmark of Tanqueray London Dry Gin is its unique blend of botanicals and one of their recipes, known as “Old Tom's,” became a foundation for the brand’s success. Taking this specific gin, my task involved the recreation of recipe cards tailored for the company, explaining how to craft the classic GNT. Each of these cards were created based on specific time periods of design, and had to follow specific strategies used by artists of each generation. Over the course of 9 weeks, these card covered design styles ranging from Bauhaus and International Design to the Victorian Era and Art Nouveau.

Approach

In my approach to creating the Tanqueray recipe cards, I meticulously blended historical design elements with contemporary interpretations, each card reflecting the distinctive characteristics of its era. The clean, functional lines of Bauhaus design influenced the minimalist, geometric layout of some cards, while the International Style’s focus on clarity and readability shaped my typographic choices. For the Victorian and Art Nouveau cards, I incorporated ornate patterns and organic forms to evoke the rich detailing and elegance of those periods. Across all styles, I maintained a cohesive thread by integrating Tanqueray’s branding and legacy, balancing the visual motifs of each era with a modern twist that ensures the designs remain fresh and accessible
