Welcome to my design challenge series, where I’ll be tackling creative briefs from Sharpen, a platform that generates unique design prompts for creatives. Since I have some extra time this summer, I’ve committed to a 17-day challenge. Each day, I’ll be tasked with designing within 24 hours, including concept development, design execution, and mockups, which will be shared here in real-time. Let’s dive into the first project.
"Design coffee stationary for a nightclub in Brooklyn, and try a colorful style."
This brief seemed straightforward but proved to be a challenge. Brooklyn's nightclubs are already known for their vibrant and well-executed branding, making it tough to find one that could benefit from a redesign. From House of Yes to Polygon Brooklyn, I was impressed by the incredible design work already in place.
After some research, I decided to focus on Elsewhere, a venue that captures the raw, underground energy of live music. Their branding had strong techno and Y2K elements, which I incorporated while adding a colorful neon palette to match the brief.
To bring the coffee shop aesthetic to life within Elsewhere’s nightclub atmosphere, I began by subtly modifying their logo to evoke a more organic, café-like feel. I incorporated a grainy texture to tie in the earthy, artisanal vibes of a classic coffee shop. For typography, I chose a clean and modern sans-serif font called Crowd Funded, which complemented the existing branding of Elsewhere.
Using their original iconography and logos as inspiration, I made tweaks that retained the club’s edgy atmosphere while introducing a minimal yet vibrant café design. The result merges Elsewhere’s distinct nightlife identity with the warmth and familiarity of a local coffee shop. Take a look at the final mockups, and feel free to explore more of my work
